I read your comment regarding the movie,"300". A good book to start you off with learning about the Persian Empire is by Tom Holland's "Persian Fire".

But the sad irony is if Frank Miller is so concerned with Islamic extremists as we all should be, then why pick a bone with a civilization that literally got wiped off the map by Islam and Islamic savagery?
I am not surprised to see ethnocentrism here- this was an important time when our side (the Greeks) won out to become our cultural ancestors. I know of a number of Greek myths and stories, but close to nothing of Persian ones .
